Dallas Cowboys Draft Option No. 2

Patrick Surtain II, CB, Alabama

Alabama cornerback Patrick Surtain II would be the best option for the Dallas Cowboys at the cornerback position. Surtain II had a solid 2020 college football season at Alabama. Patrick Surtain II has football in his DNA being the son of former Miami Dolphins and Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Patrick Surtain.

Dallas would be able to put Patrick Surtain II on the short side of the field and feel comfortable that he can hold his own. Surtain II’s size and length would disrupt quick passes thrown to the perimeter of the field. The only area that is questionable about the Alabama cornerback is his deep ball closing speed.

When watching Patrick Surtain II at Alabama three things stand out about his play on the field. Surtain II has great length and plays the game of football under control and doesn’t take a lot of risks. His length gives him the ability to make the right turns needed to make quick plays on the football.

Patrick Surtain II plays the best in press-man coverage because of his length and size. Surtain II does have the ability to play in a mixture of zone coverages and can make an impact. If Patrick Surtain II is available at number ten then Dallas should select him to help their defensive secondary.
