Dallas Cowboys Safety Targets

Marcus Williams

Marcus Williams is the probably going to be the best safety to hit the market this offseason. According to PFF, he’s in the 90th percentile in coverage and has the second highest rate of forced incompletions in the league. New Orleans is so far in the hole financially, they’ll be hard-pressed to keep Williams on any kind of deal.

Williams is the complete package. He can cover a variety of ways in a variety of schemes and he can tackle with proficiency.  The 24-year-old stands to cash in big this offseason and if the Dallas Cowboys want to sign an elite safety this offseason, he’s the top guy on my list.

Tashaun Gipson

Tashaun Gipson isn’t a true free safety you’d target to man the middle of a single high defense but the guy can play and may be a steal in free agency this year. He can cover in zone and man up inside against tight ends. He can tackle and maintain gap responsibilities as well.

He’s a do-it-all safety and at the age of 31, isn’t going to demand a ton in free agency. PFF ranked him 18th in the NFL last year (tied with Donovan Wilson) and he could be a Day 1 starter in Dallas. Will Chicago let him go?

That’s a tough question and likely comes down to what he’s looking for. He had a good season and is just the kind of veteran Dallas likes to sign in free agency every year.
