Dallas Cowboys Round Two

Richie Grant – Safety – UCF

Round two was usually a pick between safety or offensive tackle at the top of the board. While Trevon Moehrig was sometimes there, he usually went a few picks ahead of me. Grant and Moehrig are fairly close for me with Moehrig getting a slight nod. Grant offers some similar qualities as Moehrig and his ball skills are something the Cowboys need.

Grant is a free safety who has the ability to play in the slot, in the box, and single high. When watching Grant his ball skills and ability to break on a pass jumps out over and over. There are a few times he missed a coverage but he has the range and speed to make up for it.

He is a solid tackler and if he can learn to take some better angles could be a huge boost against the run. His true strength will be making plays as a centerfielder and allow him to break on the play.

Grant will need to work on his technique and staying within his assignment at times. He can get a little too aggressive and get out of control leading to a blown assignment. He looks to be able to learn to play within himself and as long as he can he has a really high ceiling. Grant gives the defense game-changing ability at safety.

Other Picks: Trevon Moehrig and Levi Onwuzurike
