Dallas Cowboys 7-Round Mock Draft: Defensive Rebuild Amidst Big Trade
By Reid Hanson
Dallas Cowboys Mock Draft
Round 3, Pick 99
Andre Cisco, FS
Syracuse
The Dallas Cowboys need help at free safety in a big way. With Xavier Woods on the way out and Donovan Wilson better suited to play SS or as a split coverage safety, Dan Quinn needs someone to man the single high safety spot when Dallas goes to Cover 3.
Dallas just signed oft-injured safety Keanu Neal to a one-year deal but we don’t know where exactly he fits. DMN reported two sources said he’s coming in to play linebacker (WILL) and a third source doesn’t want to use traditional labels.
All of this shapes up Neal playing some sort of hybrid role on the Dallas defense since Leighton Vander Esch (who plays WILL) was one of the worst rated coverage linebackers in the NFL last year.
However you slice it, Dallas needs a free safety in the mix (even if they do come to terms with one of the free agent free safeties they’re courting) and Andre Cisco could be a great one to pick on Day 2.
Andre Cisco is ballhawk that just about every fanbase has fallen in love with this draft cycle. He makes the flashy plays and fills out a stat book and highlight reel. The problem is he does all of those thing for opposing offenses as well.
Cisco is a gambler and someone who will need to be refined before he can be trusted. The Dallas Cowboys want a guy in single high who can limit the big plays – not someone who gives them up. But recognizing that takeaways have a give and take relationship (gambles are inevitable if youre looking for more turnovers), Dallas brings Cisco in here on Day 2.
