1st Round

Trevon Moehrig, TCU

Value: Reach

(Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah would likely be the best safety for many teams, but there is a good chance the Cowboys view him as a WILL linebacker)

Trevon Moehrig is likely going to be the first safety drafted in the 2021 NFL draft. The horned frog was incredibly productive in his three years in Fort Worth starting as a free safety for two years in Gary Patterson’s 4-2-5 base defense.

Moehrig played everywhere. Predominantly playing as a free safety, Moehrig also switched into the box, player as the nickel cornerback, and as an outside cornerback. He posses solid athletic ability to switch between all positions and the mental processing to do be productive at most positions as well.

The junior displays good range possessing good instincts to recognize route combinations quickly and overlap routes in his zone with his solid acceleration and good change of direction. In man coverage, he displays solid foot speed, balance, and good change of direction to mirror WRs footwork at the line and through their route stem.

A common critique of his is that he doesn’t possess elite athletic ability, which is why he likely doesn’t get drafted before pick 20, but when his instincts are as consistent as they are, it shouldn’t matter since his athletic ability is still solid.

Moehrig has seven interceptions and 21 pass deflections to his name wearing the Purple and Black often displaying good transition quickness and solid ball skills in zone coverage to make a play on the ball.

Is Moehrig good? Yes! Is he a game-changing player? Not really. Drafting him in the top 10 would be a reach even knowing how good his potential can be.
