Dallas Cowboys Round 6, Pick 192

Cade Johnson, WR

South Dakota State

With no “real” NFL Combine, the Senior Bowl holds extra weight this year. That’s why I’ve selected so many Senior Bowl standouts in this no frills Dallas Cowboys 7-Round Mock Draft. Will McClay and the Cowboys scouting department already value that Senior Bowl week, so it makes sense that grows in this COVID-impacted year.

Cade Johnson was one of those Senior Bowl standouts.

The projected slot receiver created separation with ease in practices. Showing he wasn’t just a big fish in a small pond back at SDSU but an effective weapon against any level of talent.

The Dallas Cowboys are low-key in need of a slot receiver. Michael Gallup and Cedrick Wilson are likely in their last year with the team, and Cooper and Lamb both fit better as outside X and Z receivers. Snagging a slot this year would let him seamlessly slide into the starting slot role in 2022. Similar to what we’re doing at other positions this draft.

At 5-foot-10, 186 lbs. Johnson fits the bill. He’s a good route runner with subtly in his movement that allows consistent separation. He’s also tough and not afraid to move through traffic or make plays across the middle.

Johnson offers great value here late, and rounds out an otherwise deep WR unit.
