Round Three – PIck 99 – Marlon Tuipulotu – Defensive Tackle – USC

I kept hoping Tommy Togiai would fall within striking distance and I could maneuver to get him but he kept going a little earlier than I felt comfortable trading up for. I decided to sit and see how the board fell and Marlon Tuipulotu fell to me so I took him quickly. A stout 1-tech defensive tackle who can offer some pressure inside for the Dallas Cowboys

Against the run Tuipulotu holds up well and if he gets lower than the offensive lineman is really hard to move off his spot. He gets inside blockers with good footwork and has really good hand usage to go with his power. He tracks the ball carrier well and does really well to hit the proper gap and uses his agility and power to get to the ball carrier and bring them down quickly. He offers some ability to pressure up the middle with technique rather than a great first step.

Tuipulotu won’t be the most explosive player but does all the little things well. This will cause him, at times, to struggle quickly changing directions to opposite fields and chasing down plays from the backside often. He will need work on counters if his first pass rush move fails.
