Round Four – Pick 115 – James Hudson – Offensive Tackle – Cincinnati

There is a growing sentiment the Dallas Cowboys need to start looking for the eventual replacement to Tyron Smith at left tackle. With the Cowboys not going defense early, offensive tackle had to take a little bit of a backseat since we had to devote so many resources to defense just to field a halfway decent team in 2021. Hudson offers intriguing skills that might take a year to fully develop into a high-end starter, making him a perfect Cowboys target.

Hudson has really good footwork and a strong first punch. He slides well to mirror the defensive end and his footwork is clean. He can get into the second level on running plays and essentially neutralizes linebackers with his power and agility. He understands where the play is going and does well to find ways to get to where he needs to be.

Hudson needs work getting more consistent with his pad level. Sometimes if his first punch doesn’t land he can open himself up to a counter inside, but he improved here as the season went on in 2020. He will need to be more consistent but all the tools are there to be an above-average starter with some work.
