Dallas Cowboys Final 7-Round Mock Draft: Prediction and Dream Scenario
By Reid Hanson
Dallas Cowboys Round 1 Dream Scenario
The Dallas Cowboys trade Pick 10 for Picks 20, 52, and a 2022 2nd.
The unrealistic dream scenario is clearly Kyle Pitts. But I honestly don’t see the No. 2 prospect in the draft falling to the Dallas Cowboys, so I’m not going to waste time discussing it. Instead, I’ll focus on getting the most value from the pick and that’s trading down in the right situation.
With my top players off the board, I’m happy to move back in a bidding war situation.
I don’t want to trade down for the sake of trading down, but rather take advantage of a potentially ideal spot. If QB5 is still on the board that means two things:
- Teams are going to line up to trade with the Cowboys.
- Our top targets are probably off the board.
If one QB is left on the board, there’s a good chance Pitts, Chase, Waddle, Surtain and Sewell are gone. With my top players off the board, I’m happy to move back in a bidding war situation. I don’t want fair value on the trade, I want a king’s ransom since I hold the keys to the kingdom (the last possible franchise QB on the board).
Realistic Dream Pick: Caleb Farley, CB
Not everyone’s going to like this pick because Caleb Farley has some serious medical issues that need to be addressed. But once upon a time, he was considered the clear CB1 in this class. He has the strong film and the highest athletic ceiling.
this isn’t another back injury Farley has suffered. It’s part of the original injury that was never fully addressed.
His unplanned back surgery last month threw a wrench in things and caused him to fall below Surtain and even Horn. But the Dallas Cowboys aren’t scared of drafting injured players if they see a full recovery on the horizon. And if that’s the case here, they wouldn’t hesitate to grab Farley at 20.
As we’ve discussed in the past, this isn’t another back injury Farley has suffered. It’s part of the original injury that was never fully addressed. Doctors hoped he could heal without surgery on this disk, but when it became clear he couldn’t, they essentially finished the first procedure.
"“It’s not a reoccurring injury or anything like that,” Farley said. “What I had previously worked on is still intact.”"
I believe it’s important to make that distinction since many people are under the impression this is a reoccurring problem and/or chronic issue. The second procedure was also outpatient so visions of him laid out in a hospital right now, or rolling around in a wheelchair are a little extreme.

Is drafting a guy with a back issue scary? Heck yes. But if a full recovery is expected, getting the most talented CB in the draft at 20 is a bona fide steal.
