Dallas Cowboys Round 3 Dream Scenario

Here in our alternate universe, we have Caleb Farley, Richie Grant, and Jabril Cox. All we need is a dominant defensive tackle and we’ve addressed all levels of the defense. Enter, pick 75…

Round 3, Pick 75

Realistic Dream Pick: Alim McNeill, DT

Alim McNeill has been another favorite of Cowboys Nation for quite a while. And for good reason. McNeil has the ability to play both 2-gap and 1-gap inside. He has strength and stoutness to hold up against the run and he has quickness and burst to penetrate and create interior pressure.

At 6-foot-1, 317 lbs, McNeill is what they call a “dancing bear”. He’s light on his feet, explosive, and plays with force. He can be a pocket pusher or gap shooter making him an unpredictable presence inside for interior offensive linemen.

The Dallas Cowboys don’t like to draft pure run-stuffers at DT so even though this is my dream scenario here and not a predictive one, I’m going to stick with their philosophy and only target players with penetration ability. Besides, with Brent Urban on the roster, Dallas has two 1-technique DTs – maxing them out at the spot.

McNeill more resembles second year player Neville Gallimore as a prospect and will probably rotate with him at under tackle the next couple seasons (since I’m not sure what to expect from Trysten Hill).
