North Texas wide receiver Jaelon Darden (1) runs over MTSU linebacker Brett Shepherd’s (43) back as he runs the ball on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2020, during the Blackout game at MTSU. /

Round Six – Pick 192- Jaelon Darden – Wide Receiver – North Texas

Going back to back at wide receiver may not happen, but he was one of the best players available and would also add speed to the offense. There was a stack up of corners and wide receivers here, so it may not be a huge surprise if they do decide to go back to the position. Darden has been a guy I have liked, is local, and fits.

Darden is quick, fast, and shifty all rolled into one. With the ball in his hands he is electric and finished 3rd in yards and 2nd in receiving touchdowns in 2020. He gets off the line in a hurry, hits top speeds and looks to attack seams taking safeties by surprise how fast he gets to their level. The word is, Darden is a tireless worker who is always looking to get better. He would instantly be the kick returner getting CeeDee Lamb away from kick returns.

His size is an issue, but so far it has not hurt him physically. He has some drops that looked like it might have been from hearing footsteps for a huge hit. He won’t win much if corners get into him off the line consistently, but that is easier said than done. He is strictly a slot receiver and scheme will be important for him to find a home.
