Round Six – Pick 227 – Avery Williams – Cornerback – Boise State

How could we have a Cowboys draft without a Boise State player? I think the Cowboys do go for two corners this draft, and while it didn’t really happen to this point Williams would be a solid pickup at this point. There were some other corners, but Williams flashed enough for me to pick him.

Williams is a slot corner with some speed to his game. He back peddles well, flips his hips, and follows the receiver with good technique. He does a solid job to process and react to plays and is rarely out of position. Early in his career flashed good ball skills, and isn’t afraid to contend for passes. His ability on special teams along with his flashes at nickel corner will be huge for any team that drafts him.

Williams is strictly a slot corner who will need some work staying consistent and being a little less grabby at times. Due to his size, he isn’t the best guy against the run and can get pushed around by bigger receivers. He can get impatient and will need to play with some more control, but looks to have the work to get there.
