Brandon Smith – Wide Receiver – Iowa

Brandon Smith is a receiver who has some really good highlights on his catches. He goes up, catches the ball at the highest point, adjusts in air well, and tracks the ball to make catches many receivers wouldn’t make, especially on underthrown balls.

He fights for extra yards and almost always falls forward. He is not afraid of contested catches and is willing to fight through contact. He’s a blue-collar pass-catcher the Dallas Cowboys like.

Smith, for all of his circus catches, will sometimes catch against the body too much which can contribute to his frustrating focus drops. His routes are not crip and he will allow defensive backs to recover off the line to stay with him, but he does well in the red zone. Combined with the route running, he is a build-up runner which also allows defensive backs to stay with him through routes in the mid and deep ranges.

Smith needs work on creating separation, but his ability to track and make some great catches could help his case. If he can play special teams and work on his game, he could be a depth wide receiver.
