Dallas Mavericks GM Coaching Combo No. 1

Jamahl Mosley (coach) and Michael Finley (GM)

Sometimes the best option is the one staring you right in the face. Michael Finley has been the Dallas Mavericks GM in training for years. For long-time Mavs fans, it was great to see one of their own being groomed for a leadership role. The only problem was, Donnie seemed permanently entrenched as the GM and Fin was probably being groomed for someone else.

Well, that problem seemed to get cleared up with Donnie’s departure this week. The path has been laid, the only question is if Mark thinks Finley is the ready now and the right man for the job.

Working in Finley’s favor is his seemingly decent relationship with Haralabos Voulgaris and analytics in general. Mark knows Fin can get along with him and likely takes a little pride in developing Finley as well. Plus, Finley already has a good relationship with the current coaching staff so if Mark fills the coaching staff internally, there’s little risk of the GM/coach relationship being an issue.

Speaking of coaching staff, the top internal candidate is assistant coach Jamahl Mosley. Moseley is well liked in the Mavs organization and up to the task – If not Dallas, then certainly elsewhere. Luka Doncic has been supportive of Mosley and the transition seems like the most comfortable option possible.

The Mosley and Finley duo is the smoothest possible option for Mark Cuban and the Dallas Mavericks. It would reduce tension in the org exponentially and would cash in on two rising stars.
