Dallas Mavericks Free Agent Target 2

Kelly Oubre Jr. wing

The other top commodity at the trade deadline last year was free agent wing, Kelly Oubre Jr. Golden State decided to make a push for the playoffs rather than jettison their young weapon, a plan that ultimately blew up their faces.

So now they sit, competing with everyone else over the services for their newest star player. At an expected salary of $20-25 million per season, that could be too rich for Golden State’s blood who already pay luxury taxes.

At 25-years old, Oubre would certainly fit into the Dallas Mavericks nucleus quite well. The Mavs are supposedly fans of the young wing and should be positioned well to compete for him.

Offensively, Oubre can be a streaky player. He’s at his best letting things come to him. As it stands, that’s exactly what the Dallas Mavericks need in a SG/SF alongside Luka. Oubre is also a plus defender who would provide something the Mavericks always seem to need.

Kelly Oubre is not the knockdown shooter the Mavs need, nor the lockdown defender they want, but he’s a little bit of both and a player who’s clearly on the rise. The Mavs would have to pay for what they expect him to be and that’s not going to be cheap, but Dallas can’t afford to fail another offseason and need to find young upgrades.
