Dallas Cowboys: The most important battle to watch in training camp
By Reid Hanson
The Dallas Cowboys current CB2
Anthony Brown, sixth year
The man who currently has the CB2 spot is none other than Anthony Brown. The five year veteran has been a big part of the Dallas Cowboys defense over the years, serving primarily as a slot CB, but regularly moving outside to the boundary when called upon.
After two consecutive down seasons, Brown was a possible cut this offseason – especially after Dallas re-signed his back-up, Jourdan Lewis, to a multi-year deal. But Dallas held onto the versatile veteran until they could see how things would shake out.
Good thing they did because they were unable to sign a veteran free agent and they missed on the two first round CB targets as well. After hearing Brown was playing hurt last season, there’s reason to be optimistic about Brown having a bounce back season in 2021.
For those who forgot, Brown has been one of the more consistent CBs on the Cowboys over the course of his career. He has elite speed and good change of direction. He’s not particularly long but he has inside/outside ability. He enters the 2021 season as the safety net at CB2. If all else fails he’ll get the spot, but ideally one of the rookies will shine and take it.
Which brings us to our next rookie…
