The Dallas Cowboys are on the eve of their first training camp practice and with that practice comes the first major competition we’ve seen in a long, long time. Without a real training camp last year, coaches just kind of picked their favorite players and rolled with it, making the surprises few and far between.

But with camp full-go here in 2021, the battles will be open and the competition will be fierce. Not everyone is playing for job. Most of the starting positions are spoken and accounted for. But there’s a handful of position battles that promise to be wild.

Today we’ll take a look at the top-5 training camp battles on the Dallas Cowboys this year.

Barring injury, we know most of the positions are pretty well settled. Sure, they’ll be some jockeying for position at the lower ranks and adjustments for injuries must be made, but generally, things are set. But there are at least five position groups that promise to bring some real competition to the lineup and we’re looking at them today…

Safety

Safety is low key an important competition to watch this summer in training camp. While Donovan Wilson and Damontae Kazee are written in as the starters, Kazee is coming off an Achilles injury and there’s been rumors Wilson isn’t as focused as he should be.

Dan Quinn also rolls with 3SAF sets pretty frequently, meaning they need a third guy who can also take some important snaps. Jayron Kearse and Israel Mukuhamu both figure to get make the team and get some regular snaps in 2021.

How many snaps and in what capacity remain to be seen. And if there are issues to the top two safeties, can these two step up and replace? There are a lot of questions regarding this unit and we should be able to get a good view early in camp.
