The Dallas Cowboys have endured one week of training camp with their first preseason game on the horizon on August 5, against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Hall of Fame game. This game usually has serious implications for the players currently on the outside of the roster looking in; it’s usually an extra game in the preseason schedule and this game often provides plenty of play-time for those players on the fence. (With the Cowboys starting the regular season on Thursday night, the HOF game is their fourth preseason game)

In the next month, the team will have to make many decisions in order to get their roster from 90 to 53 people. Most decisions are pretty simple, but there are always ten to twelve players that make a legitimate case for the 53 man roster. Naturally, these players exist on the defensive line, in the wide receiver room, and linebacker; these positions require a good amount of depth because they provide valuable snaps on special teams.

I stand before you today trying to pick THE 53 men that will wear the Star during the regular season without any preseason game film to review and training camp buzz to last a week. Most of these selections will be fairly simple as the team is returning a large number of starters, hoping to keep all 12 of their draft selections, and definitely keeping hold of the young players with high developmental arcs.
