Dallas Cowboys Final 53-man roster prediction

Quarterback (2)

Dak Prescott, Cooper Rush

Quarterback is an ugly situation these day. Dak hasn’t played since October of last year and isn’t expected to make an appearance until Week 1. While there are rumors of his injury being more serious than the Dallas Cowboys publicly admit, we feel confident his absence is more precautionary and not something to lose sleep over.

Behind Dak Prescott is a black hole of utter despair. Garrett Gilbert cratered this preseason and Cooper Rush seems to have secured the QB2 gig by default. Last weekend Rush performed admirably. Behind an underperforming O-line that only allowed an average of 2.4 seconds to throw the ball, Rush altered his internal clock and released the ball an average of 1.7 seconds. He did it by pushing the ball downfield and offering up some of the only successful drives fans have seen.

There’s no reason to keep a third QB since the depth behind Dak is already at replacement level quality. The Cowboys might as well go deep elsewhere because if they ever have to go to their QB3 this season, they’re done for.

Dallas Cowboys Running back (3)*

Ezekiel Elliott, Tony Pollard, Nick Ralston

The Dallas Cowboys have a tremendous 1-2 punch at RB with Zeke and Pollard carrying the load. With Dowdle going to IR, there’s really no need to keep a third HB on the roster. Nick Ralston is basically the last FB on the team and while the Dallas Cowboys could opt to forgo the position entirely, Ralston has done a good job making his case.

Ralston is a special teams asset, a move blocker, a lead blocker, a short yardage back, and a pass-catcher. He should be able to do just enough to carve out a worthwhile roll on the team.
