Hope remains the primary focus of the Texas Rangers this season. After trading away two of the best players on the roster, hope was hard to find for a while. But with the youth movement making it’s way to the majors, hope is finding a way back into our collective hearts.

Just this week rookie pitcher A.J. Alexy joined fellow rookie Glenn Otto in producing five scoreless innings in his Texas Rangers debut. For the day, Alexy only allowed one hit against Colorado and together the duo gave Rangers fans a glimpse of what the future holds for the rebuilding franchise.

The Texas Rangers are selling hope for the future and A.J. Alexy is just the latest example.

The 23-year-old Alexy has been a rising star in the system. The secondary piece acquired in the Yu Darvish trade posted a 1.66 ERA in 65 innings in the minors. His continued and consistent success indicates his big league results aren’t Fool’s Gold but rather his standard product.

Alexy’s success builds on the excitement fans have had for other young break-through pitchers in the Rangers organization. There was the aforementioned Otto, but there was also the return of Taylor Hearn, who seems determined to get back on track.

They join the young pair of Dane Dunning and Kolby Allard as the expected rotation at some point next season with all of them offering hope for their continued progression. Looking a little further down the road we can see the two “Coles,” Cole Winn and Cole Ragans, who will be breaking through on the Texas Rangers in the very near-term. And best of all we have the most recent draft pick, Jack Leiter, who’s on the fast track to the Rangers top spot.

More from Texas Rangers

It seems the area the Texas Rangers have historically struggled  with the most is finally starting to offer the most excitement for the future. That’s great news for the rebuilding Rangers since they’ve long struggled to sign top-end free agent pitchers and even with the new digs and controlled air, that’s not expected to change anytime soon.

Free agency does offer a handful of fielding options for the Rangers and traditionally they’ve been able to hook their position players when they really want to. And word is the Rangers want to this winter.

With young arms like A.J. Alexy breaking through with significant success, the Rangers have given us something to be excited about. Clearly growing pains will inevitably follow the next couple years, but hope can survive some growing pains. Nothing to do now but sit back and appreciate the latest chronical in hope.
