Dallas Cowboys: 5 players whose stock is on the rise
By Reid Hanson
Dallas Cowboys Player Report
Player no. 3: Dalton Schultz
Stock Status: Safe as they come
One of the most pleasant surprises has been the rise of Dalton Schultz. After breaking out last year (when he was forced into the starting role), Schultz was expected to take a slight step back in 2021. If for no other reason than to split snaps with Blake Jarwin.
But Schultz elevated to a level no one expected, and he not only claimed the lion’s share of the snaps at TE, but he’s established himself as one of the top tight ends in the league. Rated by PFF as the top TE in the NFL, Schultz is peaking at just the right time. The free agent to-be is extra motivated this season and it shows as he’s on track to blow previous career highs out of the water.
Schultz isn’t actually the best TE in the NFL, not even close, but he’s grading like it because the Dallas Cowboys are putting him in position to succeed each and every play. Schultz is a strong blocker in line and on the move, he’s valuable even when he doesn’t get the ball, which makes him an asset and an extremely safe investment.
Expect a Pro Bowl season from the Stanford TE this year and even with the return of Michael Gallup, expect him to be a huge part of this offense. Schultz offers an extra layer to this team from the TE position and that isn’t going to disappear anytime soon.
