Dallas Cowboys Improvement No. 5

Coverage

Based on the circumstances there are plenty of reasons we should expect a big improvement from the Dallas Cowboys coverage in December. What circumstances? Well, I just listed them all. Allow me to explain further…

  1. The Dallas Cowboys passing game is expected to improve with all of their pass-catchers coming back and the running game is expected to improve with a more efficient running game being employed. As such, the Cowboys are expected to jump out to early leads and force opponents to play from behind. This is exactly what this secondary was built for. Look back to when this defense was gathering turnovers by the boatload and you’ll see the coverage thrived in these situations.
  2. With the return of Lawrence, Gregory, and Gallimore (3 starters), the Dallas Cowboys pass-rush is also expected to receive a jolt of adrenaline this month. Nothing leads to more arrant passes than pressure and Dallas appears to be doubling and even tripling their pressure with the return of this trio.
  3. When we think of coverage we often think of cornerbacks and safeties but an often overlooked part of coverage is arguably just as important – linebacker. LBs cover zones, tight ends, running backs, and the middle of the field. If your linebackers can’t cover, your defense is in trouble. And guess what? Dallas’ LBs can’t cover. Luckily for us Micah Parsons is expected to see an increase in LB snaps this month and will be an instant upgrade in LB coverage, right?

The Dallas Cowboys coverage is built to play a certain way. The past month, circumstances didn’t fall the way they were supposed to and we saw the result.

But in December we expect the Dallas Cowboys to get back to their old ways. We expect them to build a lead, create pressure, and play Parsons more at LB. The injection of talent back into this Cowboys lineup is going to have an positive impact in all areas of the game.
