Free agent safeties for the Dallas Cowboys

LaMarcus Joyner

Age: 31

Shifting gears to something that’s more Stephen Jones’ speed, we look to a pair of economically priced vets. LaMarcus Joyner is the other New York safety (former Raiders safety) Dallas Cowboys fans should know.

Joyner is essentially the Jets version of Jayron Kearse. He’s not an elite talent who other teams overtly scheme against, but he’s a strong player who has the respect of his coaches and teammates alike. Joyner is smart and leads both on and off the field.

Joyner is undersized at 5-foot-8, 191 lbs but if the Cowboys lose Jayron Kearse, he’d be a good replacement. Not because their games are similar but rather because the role they play on their teams. It’s also worth noting, Joyner will come fairly cheap.

Devin McCourty

Age: 34

I’ve been trying to pry Devin McCourty away from Bill Belichick for years and for years McCourty has stayed right where he is in Boston. But at the age of 34, the time to reset may be now for the Patriots and that could free up the veteran Devin McCourty for the Dallas Cowboys.

McCourty’s best years are behind him but he’s still has plenty of good left in his game. McCourty constantly rates in the top half of the NFL as a free safety and would be a major upgrade to Kazee both on and off the field. If McCourty is allowed to leave NE, Dallas should run to sign him.
