Dallas Cowboys 2022 7-round mock draft

Round 5, Pick 175

Bryan Cook, SAF

Cincinnati

Bryan Cook is another prospect that has impressed early in the draft process. Cook, 6-foot-1, 203lbs, isn’t exactly an imposing force at safety. He’s not the biggest hitter or hawk-y-est ball hawk. He’s not an elite blitzer or the stickiest in man coverage.

But he’s pretty good at all of those things and the Dallas Cowboys love that quality in a prospect.

The Dallas Cowboys are a mystery at the safety position. Jayron Kearse, Malik Hooker, and Damontae Kazee are all free agents. Dallas, always resistant to paying for safety talent, could let all of them walk depending on contract demands. That would leave Dallas in a tough spot.

Cook is someone who can play in the box or back as a split safety. He can even play single high if you need him to (I question his range though). He’s a jack-of-all-trades that should fit in many different ways. Dan Quinn will love him.

And previously, we snagged Cam Taylor-Britt at outside cornerback. As you may remember CTB is a bit of a wildcard in the secondary. He can play some traditional safety roles as well as some traditional cornerback roles.

There is the belief Dallas will focus on a loaded secondary next season and continue the NFL trend of employing diverse defense backs and minimize the need for mid-level linebackers. We will see…
