Round Five – Cole Turner – Tight End – Nevada

The Cowboys have some questions at tight end, and after this last season, we saw one of the needs is a tight end who can block. Turner is a solid blocker, maybe not great, but he is one of the more complete tight ends in this class. He really shines in the receiving game as he can play on the line or split out. His height is a huge advantage in the red zone, which the Cowboys could also use.

Turner is a big-bodied tight end at 6’6″ 240 pounds with soft hands and a huge catch radius. He makes a lot of contested catches due to his frame and has the speed to pick up chunk yards after the catch. He has good straight-line speed, but also runs clean routes, and understands the coverages and where he should be. Turner is a massive red zone threat and due to size, ability to track the ball, and make catches at the highest point, he a weapon the Cowboys have desperately needed.

Turner is not the best blocking tight end, but he is sufficient and should be able to hold up as long as he learns how to lower his center a little better. He will need to refine his routes a little better, but he can get to a seam route quickly and does use his body well to sell routes. Turner also will have to work a little on at the top of routes as he will push off a little too frequently.
