Round Six – Jeffrey Gunter – Defensive End – Coastal Carolina

Again not knowing how the Cowboys address edge could push this position way up in the draft for the team. However, assuming they bring both Tank and Randy back, or have a viable pass rush option outside of just Micah Parsons.

Either way the Cowboys need depth defensive end and Gunter can help against the run right away. Although, Gunter is not a guy to think will being a steady pass rush right off the bat.

Gunter uses his speed to create power, but does so better against the run and not the pass. As a run defender Gunter does really well to set an edge and makes plays on the ball. While his lateral movement needs work, his ability to shoot into gaps is evident. He has strong hands but while his hand usage is inconsistent he understands how to use them better against the run.

There were too many reps where he didn’t try to chase down from the backside and will have to overcome this to be a starter one day. He doesn’t really have the bend to think he will be a huge boost against the pass, he can convert his speed and power better to create disruption in the backfield. Gunter helps right away against the run.
