Less than a week away from the NHL trade deadline and we are all wondering what moves the Dallas Stars might make. There’s been a lot of speculation this season that John Klingberg will be traded since they couldn’t reach an agreement on a contract extension. That remains to be seen.

I’ve been wondering what pieces the Dallas Stars could add at the trade deadline. They’re in the middle of a playoff hunt so you have to think that a couple of pieces could help. Obviously you have to be careful to not disrupt the chemistry that certain players have with each other. But we all know that you can’t gain something without giving up something.

Who could the Dallas Stars add at the trade deadline?

There are a list of names that are being thrown around as being available by different teams. I’m not sure who Dallas should give up but here are a list of players that I would like to see the Dallas Stars possibly add.

Ben Chiarot (Canadiens – D)

If you’re going to get rid of a defenseman, it would make sense to add another one. Chiarot is a big d-man that brings a veteran presence along with him. The nine-year veteran doesn’t score a lot of goals but he can help kill penalties. The only problem with the 6′-3, 225 pound Chiarot is that he is an unrestricted free agent. That means you may be renting him for a couple of months.

Mark Giordano (Kraken – D)

Another defenseman that brings a lot of veteran moxy with him. The long time Calgary Flame has spent this season with the expansion Seattle Kraken. He is a little more offensive threat than Chiarot. He has played in over 1,000 NHL games so he’s another one that brings a good veteran presence. And that may be what Dallas needs to make a run into the playoffs.

Tomas Hertl (Sharks – C)

Coming to the Dallas Stars has been perfect for Joe Pavelski. He leads the team in points this season. Perhaps, the same could happen for his former teammate. Hertl currently has 25 goals and 21 assists. And lets face it, the Stars need to find some scoring from somewhere other than their top line. Perhaps Hertl can help bring that threat.

Jake DeBrusk (Bruins – F)

This might be a long shot. Their are reports that he’s requested a trade from Boston but you might have to give up too much to get him. DeBrusk is only in his fifth season in the NHL. For his career he has 159 points (82 goals, 77 assists). He’s currently making just under $5 million. He’s young and putting him with the youngsters for the Stars could be good. Just what do you have to give up for him?

Nick Leddy (Red Wings – D)

Another veteran defenseman, Leddy could help lead the charge into the playoffs for Dallas. In his 12th season, Leddy is playing for his third team. He doesn’t score a lot so he would be a strict defensive player.
