Dallas Cowboys Round Five – Otito Ogbonnia – Defensive Tackle – UCLA

Ogbonnia is a huge defensive tackle, that would help fill a loss of Brent Urban if he is not re-signed. The Cowboys have been needing to add size to their defensive line, as teams have gashed them in the run. Ogbonnia isn’t going to wow you on every play, but he will clog the middle and not get moved around.

Ogbonnia is best right now as a run defender, which is exactly what the Dallas Cowboys need. He could use his hands better, but his power when he makes contact is well above average. He could go against almost any one-on-one situation and not lose ground. He is not the most agile or fluid player, but instead uses his power to push the pocket and with the power in his hands disengages quickly.

Ogbonnia still has to work on his game to be a force consistently. He can get a little high out of his stance which is not always as fast as it should be. He helps the Cowboys right away against the run and with a year of conditioning could find a larger role next season. The next pick was safety Sterling Weatherford.
