Dallas Cowboys Round Five – Cole Turner – Tight End – Nevada

With the release of Blake Jarwin, there is an opening for the second tight end position. Turner can come in and fill this role if he can show an ability to serve as a run blocker, while not his strongest role, he is capable and with work could be very good. With as much as the Cowboys like 12 personnel groupings, Turner would add to the passing attack and would help immensely in the red zone.

Turner’s reach and catch radius are really nice to see. He is a good route runner who creates separation then uses his frame to box out defenders. He is really good with the ball in his hands and has the ability to break a big play at any time. In the red zone, his size and length are a problem for defenders, and 50/50 balls are usually his.

Turner should not really be the blocker consistently but has shown the ability and with work could improve here. There are times when he will not work back to the quarterback and sit allowing corners to recover and close. His ability to play inside and out will help him get on the field sooner than later.
