Dallas Cowboys Bust Target No. 3: Quinnen Williams

DT

Picked: Round 1, Pick 3 – 2019 NFL Draft

Quinnen Williams is not a bust like the other two players we’ve listed. He’s been in the NFL a year longer and he’s been an impact player nearly the entire time. He has 37-starts under his belt and 15.5 sacks, 21.5 tackles for loss, and 47 pressures to show for it. So it’s clearly a little unfair to include him in this “bust” list (to which I truly apologize).

NFL.com listed him this offseason as “solid” player for the JETS, but also recommended NOT picking up his option (although the JETS just said they plan to do it) . As a former No. 3 overall pick solid ain’t good enough and if there’s any debate over whether or not your option is picked up, it’s a sign you’ve fallen short of expectations.

With New York’s timeline 2-3 years out, at the very least, Williams likely isn’t in their long-term plans. It stands to reason he could be had for the right price and while that right price would be more than what the previous two players would cost, he would instantly become the Dallas Cowboys top DT and well worth the price of admission.

It wasn’t long ago New York was trying to trade for former top pick. And I was on board with a trade then just as much as I am today. Even if he never gets better than he is right now, he’s an upgrade in Dallas and likely to be better than anyone the Dallas Cowboys would consider in the 2022 NFL Draft (it’s doubtful Dallas would use a top-75 pick on DT).

The Dallas Cowboys Dan Quinn Factor

We’re obviously just having fun here and based on the past, trades like this are highly unlikely to ever happen. But solutions are out there and the Dallas Cowboys need solutions to all the questions they’ve created (yes, they created these problems) this offseason.

Also of note: A good Dan Quinn is a terrible thing to waste, so why not hand our brilliant defensive mind some really fun projects and see what he can get done? There’s no doubt Quinn could get the most out of these players, and cost to acquire isn’t going to be prohibitive.

light. Must Read. Scripted plays: What it says about Prescott and Moore

Stephen Jones has done a disservice to the team this offseason and it would be nice for them to get creative and pull an ace out of their sleeve because right now the Cowboys seem content taking a step back in 2022.
