Round Five – Bryan Cook – Safety – Cincinnati

I would like to think the Cowboys could find a player like Cook this late in the draft, and while I am not sure he makes it this far, he kept falling and I kept grabbing. While his coverage skills will need work, he fills the role left by Keanu Neal and currently filled by Jabril Cox. This would give the Cowboys depth at both safety and linebacker with some work.

Cook is one of those safeties you want to see hitting people. He brings an aggressive and violent nature to the game and he is so good against the run, that you can roll the dice on coverage for depth purposes early in his career. He can cover tight ends and reads zones well enough that he has some fit within the passing game, but against the run is really where he shines.

Cook will need to work on his man coverage skills to be a consistent starter in the NFL. He isn’t going to jump off the screen with his ball skills but has shown flashes of what could be. He is still learning the position and will probably need to play special teams early and find the right system to play in, both can be offered in Dallas.
