Dallas Cowboys Round Two – Travis Jones – Defensive Tackle – UConn

I was targeting a wide receiver here, but unless I wanted to trade up (which is entirely a possibility here) I was stuck having to go BPA and Jones was far and away the BPA at this spot. Depending on how the draft is falling this is one of the more likely trade-up spots for the Dallas Cowboys. As it stands I stood where I was and took the draft as it fell to this point, hoping I could come back in round three.

Jones is an absolute monster at the point of attack and can bully even the most stout of interior linemen. He uses his long arms and solid counters to get a push into the backfield which has caused teams to double-team him fairly often. He sees plays develop and reacts well, especially against the run where Jones is at his best. Jones has some serious power and length which fits what the Cowboys like.

Jones is still working on becoming a better pass rusher from the inside. He will sometimes be a little late on the snap which slows his push down and he will need to be more consistent getting off the ball. This small delay at times will cause him to be off-balance on contact which has led to some snaps where he ends up on the ground. He has the tools, just needs the refinement to be a menace on the inside.
