The Dallas Cowboys covered a lot of their holes through the NFL Draft last weekend. After losing far more than gaining in free agency, they honestly had no other choice.

Through the draft, Dallas brought in a guard, defensive end, and receiver with their top-3 picks (picks which are traditionally expected to challenge for starting spots). In later rounds they added pieces for just at everywhere else, even picking up some coveted undrafted free agents who could challenge for roster spots and add to depth (see list link at the end).

Not all of the Dallas Cowboys needs were filled in the 2022 NFL Draft so here are three free agents who should be signed immediately

Assuming the market has cooled and the money is right, we look at three players the Dallas Cowboys should sign to one-year deals. They could make a big difference on an unsettled roster like Dallas’

Free Agent Target No. 1

Dont’a Hightower, LB

Age: 32

After opting out in 2020, Dont’a Hightower returned to New England in 2021. The season was a productive one on paper, but Hightower wasn’t his usual impactful self which make it unlikely he’ll return to the Pats this season.

Like everyone on this list, Hightower’s best days are behind him (they’re available in May for a reason). But that doesn’t mean he can’t serve a valuable role in a young rotation of players.

The Dallas Cowboys are thin at linebacker. Yes, they have the all-world Micah Parsons, but Parsons is more than just a LB and often moves up to play EDGE in critical situations.  Besides Parsons they boast the oft-injured Leighton Vander Esch and second year player Jabril Cox. The Rookie Damone Clark will miss part, if not all, of the 2022 season, and Luke Gifford is nothing more than emergency depth and special teams.

The Dallas Cowboys LB corps is shallow and unproven. Adding a veteran like Hightower would add some veteran insurance and stability to the unit and won’t break the bank in the process.
