3 Dallas Cowboys veterans in jeopardy of losing their job to a rookie
By Reid Hanson
Dallas Cowboys Player No. 3
Tyler Biadasz, Center
The Dallas Cowboys entered this offseason fairly non-committal on their starting center, Tyler Biadasz. Not only did they heavily scout the center position in the NFL draft but they devoted top resources in undrafted free agent (UDFA) signings.
Alex Lindstrom, someone I highlighted last week as a legitimate challenger, may be a lowly UDFA, but he’s one of the more polished and cerebral players in the game. Two elements Biadasz has been lacking.
While Biadasz improved down the stretch, he isn’t where many of us envisioned him when Dallas drafted him two years ago. His calls at the line have been a liability and other players have been forced to pick up his slack.
The Dallas Cowboys are undergoing a rebuild of sorts on their offensive line. They have officially moved from La’el Collins at RT to Terrence Steele. They have moved from Connor Williams to Tyler Smith. And they have moved from veteran swing tackles to developmental prospects (Josh Ball and Matt Waletzko).
Undertakings such as these are not with growing pains and the Dallas Cowboys seem willing to take on those pains if it makes for a better tomorrow (i.e. 2023). If someone like Lindstrom or even James Empey proves to be just as effective as Biadasz this season, look for them to rip off that Band-Aid and make the move.
Is it likely an undrafted rookie free agent takes the job from Tyler Biadasz this season. I’d say so, but it’s not completely unlikely given Tyler’s struggles and Lindstrom’s knowledge. I wouldn’t expect anything to happen early in the season but would be surprised to see something late.
