After dumping multiple veteran salaries, the Dallas Cowboys underwent a roster overhaul this offseason. Instead of replacing them with free agent plug-and-play options, the Dallas Cowboys have chosen to lean on developing players and rookies to fill vacancies.

As a result, things could fall a number of different ways for the Dallas franchise. While this idea may seem stressful to some, it should provide for an especially exciting training camp in Oxnard this summer.

We look at 5 possible new starters on the 2022 Dallas Cowboys

Let’s start with an easy one…

Tyler Smith, OL

Barring a catastrophe, Tyler Smith is going to start on the offensive line this year. When you use a first round pick on a position player, anything less is seen as a failure. Where Smith starts in 2022 is the question at hand.

The easy answer is Smith takes over at LG for the now departed, Connor Williams. Depending on the health of certain injury prone tackle, the rookie may ultimately start at left tackle though.

It’s not unreasonable to think Tyron Smith, currently out for back issues, will miss time this year. As such, the Dallas Cowboys might expedite their plan to eventually move Tyler to LT.

The Cowboys are going to give Tyler Smith snaps at LT all season and have not hidden from the fact he was partially drafted to be the LT of the future. Smith’s back situation might make that future come sooner than we imagined.

With all that said, expect Tyler Smith to play LG if all parties are healthy.
