Dallas Cowboys veteran wildcard No. 3: DeMarcus Lawrence

The Dallas Cowboys are hoping DeMarcus Lawrence can reclaim some of that mojo that once made him the defense’s  “war daddy” Tank has a had a couple down seasons as of late, highlighted by injuries and made worse with a decreased pressure rate , so it seems D-Laws best days are behind him. But that doesn’t mean he cant improve from his 2021 self.

Lawrence is focused on the task this offseason, and made his intentions known that he does not intend to fade into the background.

Lawrence is determined to give Micah Parsons a run for his money as sack leader in Dallas. If he succeeds in just being a competitive challenger, the Dallas Cowboys defense could be extremely formidable in 2022.

Lawrence is arguably the best-rounded DE in the game. He sniffs out screens, plays the run, and pressures passers at a high level. He has no weakness. But without Randy Gregory this year, the status quo isn’t enough. Lawrence has to channel his younger self and be a bigger difference maker as a pass-rusher (2021 was his lowest pressure rate in years).

That’s where he’s a wildcard. If he can do half as much as he’s set out to this season, he could put the Cowboys defense over the top. If he repeats last season, this year could be rough for the Dallas D.

The Cowboys don’t need a 13-sack season from Lawrence, but they need him to be on the field and offering up consistent pressure all season long. If he can do that, this Cowboys defense will be tough to beat in 2022.
