Dallas Cowboys 53-man roster projection: TE and WR

Tight End (3)

Dalton Schultz, Jake Ferguson, Sean McKeon

I’m going thin at TE because the talent at the position group doesn’t justify the standard four. Dalton Schultz will likely play under the tag in 2022 and with any luck Jake Ferguson will build on his impressive camps and lock down TE2.

Sean McKeon is an excellent blocker who’s somewhat capped on top-end potential. While Some rate Jeremy Sprinkle above him, I don’t see Sprinkle’s allure. The veteran struggled in every way last season and the upside of McKeon far exceeds any heights Sprinkle can reach.

Receiver (6)

CeeDee Lamb, Michael Gallup, Jalen Tolbert, Noah Brown, James Washington, Simi Fehoko

We’re going to operate under the assumption Gallup is on the roster from the jump. Not necessarily because we’re betting on him being healthy in Weeke 1, but because if he’s out the first couple weeks it’ll only be temporary. So with an eye towards a more long-term 53-man roster, we’ll include him here.

Lamb and Gallup are 1-2, clearly. The role for WR4 is also pretty clearly Noah Brown’s since that job requires a boatload of blocking (it’s why Kellen always gets Brown consistent snaps). It’s WR3 that’s the big mystery.

The primary competition at WR3 is Jalen Tolbert and James Washington. Tolbert has been wowing so if I have to guess today I’m saying Tolbert gets the third most snaps at WR and secures the WR3 spot. This puts Washington’s roster spot in jeopardy if he can’t prove his value elsewhere.

Simi Fehoko is the project player with a chance to make some big contributions either as a big play sideline threat or as a Noah Brown-type blocker at the line. (For more on Simi check out: Projecting Simi Fehoko’s expanded role in 2022)
