Dallas Cowboys 53-man roster projection: OL

Offensive Line (9)

Zack Martin, Tyron Smith, Terence Steele, Tyler Smith, Matt Waletzko, Josh Ball, Tyler Biadasz, Connor McGovern, Matt Farniok

The Dallas Cowboys offensive line is a wildcard in training camp. With so many new faces and so many roster spots up for grabs, anything can happen. It’s not about getting the top-nine guys, but also the right nine guys. The depth at tackle specifically could shake things up when the pads come on and players are put to the test.

Clearly Zack Martin, Tyron Smith, Terence Steele, and Tyler Smith are locks. Tyler Biadasz, Connor McGovern, Matt Waletzko, and Josh Ball are pretty likely to make the team as well, that leaves one spot up for grabs (or 2 if they keep 10 on the final roster).

Second year player Matt Farniok has the inside track here. If he can show good swing capability along the interior, he could be a big part of the Dallas Cowboys plans going forward. He has ability you can’t teach and is someone the Cowboys have been fosued on developing

Where things can get weird is at tackle. I firmly believe if Tyron Smith is lost for an extended period of time, Tyler Smith is the most likely replacement. I predicted it from the day Smith was drafted and after mini-camps concluded, Jon Machota from the Athletic said as much too. Unless Ball or Waletzko can prove to be capable multi-game starters at OT, Tyron Smith’s health is key to how the Cowboys move forward.

It’s also important to point out how insecure Tyler Biadasz’s job is at center. Despite being a two-year starter, he hasn’t locked down his starting spot. Farniok, McGovern, and a pair of undrafted rookie free agents will be competing with him for starting center.
