Dallas Cowboys 53-man roster prediction

Dallas Cowboys Tight end (4): Dalton Schultz, Jake Ferguson, Sean McKeon, Payton Hendershot

The first name should be no surprise. He’s by far the best on the Dallas Cowboys and a lock on this roster. Jake Ferguson is going to surprise people. He’s a plus blocker and has great hands. He could be the TE1 by as early as 2023 and will be a well-rounded chess piece who won’t demand the ball in his hands to make an impact.

Sean McKeon is arguably the best blocker in the TE room already. He can be used a variety of ways and has only scratched the surface in his potential. The name you may not be familiar with is Payton Hendershot.

We dove into Hendershot yesterday at Sport DFW and discussed all the things he brings to the table and why he may push a more well-known name like Jeremy Sprinkle off the roster entirely. Be sure to check out the link here for the breakdown: Payton Hendershot is someone fans need to know.

Receiver (5): CeeDee Lamb, Michael Gallup, Jalen Tolbert, Simi Fehoko, T.J. Vasher

WR is a position where this gets fun. WRs notoriously enter training camp with truckloads of play-making potential. Final rosters are often contracted with heavy weight on special teams, blocking, and consistency. In this All-Potential roster build we’re doing today, we’re putting the weight on play-making ability.

The first three are obvious under any circumstance so let’s move to WR4. As you can see, the veterans James Washington and Noah Brown miss the cut. Washington’s never played with a good QB so he does have some potential breakout ability, but his ceiling is capped so he missed the cut. Brown is a dominant blocker and Kellen Moore favorite, but if we’re valuing playmaking ability he’s not in the top-6.

Simi Fehoko is a guy we profiled earlier in the offseason. He’s a big, long, and fast receiver capable of playing X and learning to play inside. He bulked up in the offseason with hopes that he could take over some of Browns blocking inside and become a Big Slot WR mismatch in the process (for more on Simi check out our projection here).

T.J. Vasher is another tantalizing prospect who’s making this All-Potential Team. With the longest WR arms in the NFL, a 6-foot-5 frame, and jump-ball skills, Vasher is a no-brainer here. He could be the ultimate chess piece for Moore if he reaches his potential.

Fryfogle isn’t bubbling over with potential so he misses the cut but he has a great college resume and would come in with more of a diverse pass-catching skill set so I’m not ruling him out.
