Dallas cowboys 53-man roster prediction

Dallas Cowboys Safety (6): Malik Hooker, Jayron Kearse, Donovan Wilson, Isreal Mukuamu, Markquese Bell, Tyler Coyle

Malik Hooker has played at an elite level once before, a couple years separated from injury, the Dallas Cowboys hope he’s hit that elite level again. Donovan Wilson has flashed greatness before as well, but injuries have always leveled him off.

Jayron Kearse, Dan Quinn’s special weapon he uses in the aforementioned SAF/LB role,  has Pro Bowl potential. Markquese Bell was a priority UDFA signing who has impressed in camp and could be future starter.

Tyler Coyle is physically gifted and could be the next Jeff Heath for the Dallas Cowboys (more on what that means here). And Israel Mukuamu is a long lean man coverage machine with strong character traits and length you can’t teach.

Cornerback (6): Trevon Diggs, Anthony Brown, Nahshon Wright, Jourdan Lewis, Isaac Taylor-Stuart, DaRon Bland

I’m banking on Kelvin Joseph starting the season on the suspended list so I won’t include him here. For more on that check out, “why Kelvin Joseph will likely face punishment.”

Diggs goes without saying and Anthony Brown and his inside/outside versatility is the glue that holds this whole mess together. Jourdan Lewis may be tapped out in potential but he consistently flashes big play ability and has strong ball-skills so he gets the cut even if he’s stuck at CB4 most of the year.

Wright showed enough last season to make you think he’s more than just a traits guy the coaching staff reached on (see also: Nahshon Wright 2021 film breakdown) and Isaac Taylor-Stuart is 6-foot-2 of potential.

DaRon Bland gets the last spot over Dallas Cowboys favorite C.J. Goodwin. Goodwin is great but he’s reached his heights and Bland was drafted primarily for his special teams ability so in this all-potential projection, he gets the nod over the veteran.

Total Defense: 27

Dallas Cowboys Final Count: 53

Obviously this isn’t how the final roster will fall because the Dallas Cowboys need to think about the present and try to win this year, even if they do seem to be placing a slight priority on the future this offseason.

Some of these players pack such a strong skillset and such high ceiling, you can bet the Cowboys will keep them around even if they are developmental.
