Dallas Cowboys 53-man roster prediction

Quarterback (3): Dak Prescott , Cooper Rush, non-specific veteran

The key observation to make here is at QB3. Dak Prescott is the Dallas Cowboys obvious starter. Cooper Rush is the QB2 since we’ve seen him actually win a game with a performance we feel he can duplicate. But after that it’s a whole lotta nuthin.

If the Dallas Cowboys are really focused on winning this season, they will invest in one more safety net at the team’s most important position. That means acquiring a veteran QB, either by trade or on the trash heap.

Not many options exist in free agency and the ones that are there are there for a reason, but getting a QB3 with a late round conditional pick is always an option.

Running back (4): Ezekiel Elliott, Tony Pollard, Rico Dowdle, Nick Ralston

The first two are no surprise so let’s jump to the last two. Rico Dowdle is the safe pick because he’s a reliable (albeit unspectacular) ball carrier and special teams leader. He’s the definition of safe. Nick Ralston makes the team for his unique contributions on special teams and his work as a fullback.

The Dallas Cowboys have two fullbacks on the team right now, Ralston and Ryan Nall, but Ralston gets the nod because he’s younger, cheaper to keep around, and in my mind better RIGHT NOW.

Last season the Dallas Cowboys didn’t keep a FB on their roster most of the season. They barely use the position and when they do go 21 personnel, they use both TP and Zeke together. But if we’re focused on winning now, having a real lead blocker is important, even if it means they can’t carry a developmental RB on the 53.
