Dallas Cowboys 53-man roster prediction
Tight End (4): Dalton Schultz, Jake Ferguson, Sean McKeon, Jeremy Sprinkle
If the Dallas Cowboys are more focused on winning now than winning later, Sprinkle gets the nod over developmental guys like Peyton Hendershot. Sprinkle is boring but safe. He’s a decent blocker who the Cowboys have leaned on a lot and should be able to walk right in and execute. He’ll add veteran stability to a position group that has two green players in Ferguson and McKeon.
Receiver (6): Michael Gallup, CeeDee Lamb, James Washington, Jalen Tolbert, Noah Brown, non-specific veteran
Gallup is expected to miss time recovering from 2022 ACL surgery (Yes, it was this year) and Amari Cooper and Cedrick Wilson are both gone. That means the Dallas Cowboys will be without three of their top-four WRs from last season when this year begins. Yikes
That’s why if they want to win now they have to bring in another veteran.
All they need is a plug-and-play veteran to come in and cover the loss of Gallup (3 weeks, give or take) and anything else they can offer is “gravy.” With a handful of injury-prone vets on the market the options are out there.
Simi Fehoko gets bumped in this because he’s the high-ceiling/low-floor prospect we’re avoiding in this scenario. The Dallas Cowboys need someone to start in Week 1 and an over-the-hill veteran is much safer than a guy with zero career receptions.
