The Dallas Cowboys have opened training camp and we finally have some football. After all the discussion on what the needs were or weren’t, we are finally here with all the curiosity about how the team would come together. We finally get to see how the WR corps could look, whether or not motion will be used more, and more importantly what the depth on this roster actually is.

Jerry of course opened the camp with a press conference today and while not a ton was said, one thing that stood out was how he said that paying a bargain price for things has rarely worked out for him. This is odd considering all of the backlash the front office has gotten for trying to be cheap with their own players and in free agency. It also counters the news that was reported earlier that the Cowboys were interested in free agent linebacker Anthony Barr, but did not want to pay what he was asking for.

The Dallas Cowboys open training camp and we finally have football, actual football being played on a field.

There will be battles along the offensive line, wide receiver, and defensive line. While we may not get a full picture of the final roster early on, we can see where the coaching staff and front office are leaning. Dak Prescott may not see a ton of work as the preseason games happen, but the depth behind him is always a question. We know some positions, barring injury, are fairly well set in stone, but the depth at positions like running back and safety could be vital as the year goes down.

While there is almost always some roster churning, there is a likelihood that a bigger named player that is still available could be grabbed. Center, linebacker, and wide receiver are the most possible knowing those positions have some issues coming into camp.

The best thing the Dallas Cowboys can do is hope injuries are minimal and that all of their hopes pan out with the unknowns on the roster. With Michael Gallup already out for a few weeks of the regular season, the wide receiver corps is already rather thin. Any further injuries could set the passing game back for 2022.

All of this said, we are here, the start of training camp, which leads to preseason games. Those preseason games will carry excitement as we inch closer to regular season football. For now, we watch training camp and hope everything comes together. How will the Cowboys end up in 2022? It all starts now.
