With the Dallas Cowboys heading into training camp, there were some questions surrounding the wide receiver corps with Michael Gallup‘s injury. One of the common names brought up to help was free-agent acquisition James Washington.

With CeeDee Lamb becoming the de facto number one, the Dallas Cowboys needed to add to the corps once Amari Cooper and Cedrick Wilson left. The only free agent addition at wide receiver, Washington was thought by the front office to solve some of the issues. Today, Washington got injured and will be out for at least ten weeks.

Washington brought experience to a corps with a lot of unproven talent. Simi Fehoko, TJ Vasher, and Brandon Smith were brought on last year, and Jalen Tolbert, KaVontae Turpin, Jaquarii Roberson, Ty Fryfogle, and Dennis Houston are all rookies. Without Washington, there will be even more pressure put on CeeDee Lamb.

The Dallas Cowboys need help at wide receiver with the loss of James Washington and Michael Gallup and not much experience outside of CeeDee Lamb.

Should the Cowboys decide to roll into the season, as is, there will be 192 receptions within the corps and Lamb makes up 153 of them, Brown the other 39. For touchdowns, the total will be 11 with Lamb accounting for all of them.

That would force the Cowboys to potentially run more, use their tight ends, and hope the offensive line holds up. That is a lot to ask the offense and hope every unproven player pans out. It could happen, but it is a precarious place to be.

The best option is for the Cowboys to look toward free agency or a trade. In free agency the name that has popped up is Will Fuller. Fuller has had a ton of injuries and rumors are he is done with football both physically and mentally.

After Fuller, the list is not great with Cole Beasley, Odell Beckham Jr., T.Y. Hilton, and Allen Hurns being among the best options. Injuries, chemistry, age, and downgraded play have plagued most of the names available.

Next. Dallas Cowboys fans, was Stephen Jones right after all (Collins, Cooper, Gregory)?. dark

The trade market could be a little better with teams also needing to replace injuries. The big issue with a trade would be if the front office would be willing to pay. While Stephen Jones called the 20 million in cap space “dry powder”, it may be time to use it. Whatever way they decide to go, the Cowboys have put themselves in a spot that is certainly not optimal.

The Dallas Cowboys need to add to the WR corps now, it may even be too late. However, they have to try, try something.
