Dallas Cowboys final roster prediction (Post-Denver edition)
By Reid Hanson
The Dallas Cowboys showed some good and some bad in Denver last weekend. While the team as a whole failed, the preseason is about individual performance. And we saw some individuals perform…
Based on the play against Denver, who’s set to make and miss the Dallas Cowboys final roster this season.
This is an exercise we plan to do after every preseason contest. Rosters are made according to how players perform both in games and in practice so we expect minor changes weekly. Based on the first half of camp and the first game, here are our roster predictions for the Dallas Cowboys final cut
Dallas Special Teams (3): Lirim Hijrullahu, Brian Anger, Jake McQuaide
This is a pretty easy one to make right now. Brian Anger is locked in on a multi-year deal so he’ll be the Dallas Cowboys punter. McQuaide is one of the best in the business in long-snapping, so he’s a lock as well.
Kicker is where things get interesting. Lirim missed a kick on Saturday but he’s been the Dallas Cowboys best performer at kicker and seems the most likely to hang on into the regular season. Do we feel good about that? Not at all, but that’s the situation the Cowboys find themselves in.
Quarterback (3): Dak Prescott, Will Grier, Cooper Rush
Will Grier was a winner on Saturday and he didn’t even play. Cooper Rush laid an egg and looked more like his normal journeymen self than the guy who won in Minnesota last season. Training Camp saw Will Grier pull ahead of Cooper in more ways than one. If it wasn’t for a groin injury last week, we would have seen Grier really challenge for that top spot behind Dak.
Assuming Grier is back this week, he’s going to be given a lot of opportunity to take that job from Rush. Even though Ben DiNucci displayed noticeable improvement, I’m not willing to bump him ahead of Rush. Right now, it looks like three QBs will be on the roster in 2022.
