Dallas Cowboys FF steal No 3: Jalen Tolbert
The Dallas Cowboys grabbed Jalen Tolbert in this year’s draft as they look to ease the blow of losing Amari Cooper. While Cee Dee Lamb is cemented as the WR1 and Dalton Schultz seems to be firmly the number two option to begin the season, Tolbert can insert himself right into Dak Prescott’s top targets for these first 2-3 weeks.
James Washington is out until at least November and Michael Gallup is not slated to start for the Cowboys for these first few games. He also fills the role of deep-threat the Cowboys would have sorely missed with Cooper’s departure.
According to fantasypros.com he led the country in targets (99), catches (38), and receiving yards (1,402) on targets of 20-plus air yards. With Lamb holding down the slot position, Tolbert will have the opportunity to make his presence known when running deeper routes.
If he can build a connection with Dak early on, he can become a serious weapon in fantasy on a top-scoring offense. Expect the opener versus the Buccaneers to be high scoring, back-and-forth contest that should have a lot of touchdown upside. The Bengals in week 2 could be a week to sit and monitor Tolbert.
In week 3 though, Tolbert could be primed to explode facing a weak Giants defense. Even if Gallup comes back by this game, Tolbert will have a real chance to break out and you won’t want to be the one that left him on waivers or missed out on the chance to draft him.
Tolbert is currently going as the WR67 so taking a flier on Tolbert in the final rounds of your draft to fill out your bench is no risk at all. While his ADP doesn’t land him in the standard 16 rounds of drafts, these last two rounds are perfect to grab your guys.
Go get Tolbert, let him spend some time on your bench where his performance won’t affect you. For wide receivers, targets are king so when I am monitoring an unproven rookie or sleeper I look to see how consistent his target share is. Everyone can have a week of three receptions for 80 yards and a touchdown, but if they’re not getting consistent looks they can turn out to be one-week wonders.
Who are we missing? Which Dallas Cowboys do you think will surprise people this year?
