More Dallas Cowboys Notes

  • Back to Kellen Moore. Not all of the blame for Dak’s injury can be put on Smith. It was clear from the start that this offensive line was more equipped to run block than they were to pass protect. Yet despite the flow, the efficiency of the run game and the inefficiency of the passing game, the play calling continued to call for Smith to be put in poor situations considering his circumstances. A large portion of the offensive woes can fall squarely on game planning and play calling decisions.
  • The Dallas Cowboys promised to run the ball. They convinced everyone they were going to run the ball, except two groups. Themselves and the Bucs. Tampa Bay Linebacker Devin White said post game that TB knew the Cowboys weren’t serious about running the football. Despite having success on the ground, White was correct. The Dallas Cowboys weren’t at all serious about running the football.
  • There will be discussion about the wide receiver depth, but Moore and CeeDee Lamb aren’t off the hook here. Moore needs to help Lamb and Lamb needs to help Dak. Moore did a poor job of finding creative ways to put the ball in Lamb’s hands and Lamb had yet another drop. The ball was placed in a tough spot, but 1st round picks who are WR1 need to make those plays. What’s concerning is this is now a constant for Lamb. Eight drops his rookie year. Eight drops his second year and now carrying over in the season opener.
  • Good to see Brett Maher hit on his lone attempt. An early test that Maher passed is a good sign for all who are rightfully concerned about the Cowboys kicking situation.
