5 Dallas Cowboys starters likely playing their last game in Dallas

Dallas Cowboys on the way out: Connor McGovern, OG
There isn’t a clear replacement in the pipeline but when has that stopped the Dallas Cowboys from letting a LG walk in free agency? Just last season the Cowboys let Connor Williams leave uncontested, so based on their track record, they’ll probably do the same for McGovern.
McGovern is having a career season in 2022 but it still falls short of Williams’ previous years in Dallas. McGovern is essentially a replacement level player and the Dallas Cowboys could save important funds by looking for younger and cheaper solutions in 2023.
The Dallas Cowboys will likely look to the NFL Draft to help plug the hole at LG. With new deals coming up for CeeDee Lamb, Trevon Diggs, Micah Parsons, and Terence Steele, the Dallas Cowboys have to save money at as many positions as possible and that means rolling the dice again at guard.
Donovan Wilson, SAF
Donovan Wilson has been one of Dan Quinn’s biggest playmakers over the years in Dallas but with the Cowboys already committed to Jayron Kearse and Malik Hooker in 2023, they simply can’t afford to pay a third veteran safety.
Injuries have kept Wilson from developing into a cornerstone player but the kid certainly has the talent to be one. A bit of wild card, Wilson can produce some jaw-dropping plays and also some headscratchers. The Cowboys would love to keep him but with money dedicated to other safeties already, and a few nice developmental players already on the roster, it just doesn’t make financial sense.

There are plenty of other players who’s future is up in the air and it will probably come down to money whether they stay or not. But there’s a good chance the players we just discussed are about to play their last game for the Dallas Cowboys in the city of Dallas and that deserves our attention.
