Dallas Cowboys Player No. 3

Donovon Wilson is having a hell of a contract year and he will most certainly be paid accordingly. But it should not be by the Dallas Cowboys. He is a downhill, box safety with questionable coverage skills. Israel Mukuamu has been waiting for his turn for the last couple of years. The team will lose Wilson’s physicality but gain Mukuamu’s coverage skills which may be just what the doctor ordered.

In today’s NFL, offenses are looking for mismatches in every way possible. They identify your weaknesses, specifically in pass coverage, and exploit it until you adjust. It’s well documented that Izzy played cornerback at University of South Carolina. The potential for this defense with his coverage skills will skyrocket.

There will be some growing pains with Mukuamu but the hope is that those last two years of him sitting and watching will do him a lot of good. He entered the league as a tall, slender frame athlete. Looking at him now, you can clearly see he has put on more muscle and all fans can do now is pray that translates to physicality on the field. Donovon has been good for the Cowboys, but all good things must come to an end.

Cowboys, you have a few big free agents approaching over the next few off seasons. Micah Parson, Trevon Diggs and CeeDee Lamb in no particular order will command top dollar. Trust your process and continue building your depth thru the draft. It has worked before, and it will work again.
