Dallas Cowboys key to victory in Tampa No 1: Mike McCarthy

Mike McCarthy was hired to end the Dallas Cowboys playoff droughts and lead this team to January success. Anything else will be unacceptable. It’s the time of the year when you show who you are.

The refusal to take the keys from Kellen Moore and call the offensive himself. Offensive play calling is his specialty. It remains baffling to me.

The defense is dealing with injuries. Reinforcements are coming. Getting Johnathan Hankins and Leighton Vander Esch back should help, but it is too early to know until game is played.

The Cowboys often look like they are in preseason form.

They don’t look prepared. Lack of focus and attention to detail is alarming. The head coach handles everything. Everyone doesn’t want to hear about how well practice went.

No 2: Dak Prescott

The Dallas Cowboys will go as far as their leader can lead them. Now is the time to raise his level.

Limit the mistakes, not add to them. In the last seven Dallas games, he has thrown at least one interception.

That is a concern. No matter what anyone says otherwise.

He can’t panic when chaos rears its ugly head. The crowd will be loud. Calls will be missed. None of that matters.

Do not allow yourself to be rushed. Set the pace. Dictate the terms of engagement in the field.

Prescott may need to go off script and improvise. Get your team into the end zone and lead them to a playoff victory. He need to play his best for the Cowboys to walk away with a win.

If he can’t. Dallas might have to look for a guy who can.
